I'm a horrible person...
(and a liar apparently)
I lied and said that I would write about my disastrous surprise yesterday but now it is today. I hope you don't hate me. It's been a tad bit busy at 1521 selling, sorting, packing and throwing out useless crap. Please forgive me.
Anyways,
onto my disastrous Valentine's
surprise for Chris...
I had the great idea of waking up before Chris' normal wake up schedule (8am sharp on the weekends) to make heart-shaped pumpkin pancakes (our fave from TJ's). I found a cute heart-shaped cookie cutter a while back. I bought it with the idea of surprising Chris on V-day with breakfast in bed complete with super cute heart pancakes and scrambled eggs. I even wanted to get creative by making stencils so I could put powdered sugar hearts on them.
Let me preface this next part by saying BECCA+MORNINGS+NUMBERS= NOT A GOOD MIX
I woke up about 7:15 to be sure I had enough time to make everything and get it all cleaned up. Usually Chris is on breakfast duty so I wasn't all that familiar with the recipe. On the back of the box there are two recipes; one for 6 pancakes and one for making the whole box. I obviously only wanted to make six so I put a cup of the mix in a bowl. Somehow at this point my eyes shifted downwards to the recipe for the whole box. I began melting 8 tablespoons of butter, and adding 4 eggs and 3 cups of milk. Yes, that's a lot of stuff and I'm sure at any other time of day I would have realized my mistake a lot sooner.
It wasn't until everything was in the bowl together that I thought to myself 'it seems like this batter is much thicker when Chris makes it'. I looked at the box and realized that (besides the 1 cup of mix)I had made the recipe that was for the whole box. I started laughing out loud to myself and figured it would be a huge waste unless I poured the rest of the mix in, so I did. By this time it was 8:00 and Chris woke up and came out into the kitchen to see my huge mess. He just thought it was funny and grabbed the spatula to start cooking. What a sweet husband!
Instead of me making him a nice breakfast, Chris ended up making a box full of pancakes for us. No scrambled eggs, no cute powdered sugar hearts. We made a few heart-shaped pancakes for each of us and made the rest of them just normal. Needless to say, we have been eating pumpkin pancakes for breakfast and lunch ever since.
I guess there is a reason why Chris is always the one to make breakfast.
Haha! That is too cute! I probably would have done the same thing, so yay for husbands coming to the rescue!
thats not a disaster....thats a memory!!!!!
us mama's are sleep deprived and make many mistakes.
