Last week Bennett's room was featured on Fawn and Forest's
blog (Buck's will be up soon) and I've been wanting to share their rooms here, so this was the perfect opportunity to take decent pictures.
I love Bennett's room and could probably spend all day in there.
I hope he loves it just as much as I do!
The tent and table were both made by chris' dad and they are perfect for his room:
Yep, I stood on his bed to get this one:
Close-up of the table:
That cube lamp was spendy but has been so great:
This boy likes books:
That's it!
I'll share Buck's room once it's been featured.
I can't believe it has been a year since we bought our house! When we bought it we knew that we would paint the interior right away. A couple of coats of
bright white paint went up everywhere soon after we moved in.
We also knew that we would convert the den space into a third bedroom
(back to the way it was originally). That
project was completed a couple of months before Buckley arrived
(though I have yet to show you the completed nursery).
The next project on our list is to paint the exterior. It sounds like a huge job, especially when you add in sanding down a majority of the house because the current paint is in such bad shape.
When we pictured what we wanted the house to look like, we both agreed that we wanted a dark house with a bright door. We wanted to take our mid century ranch back to its roots, and the time has finally come!
These houses were ones that we used for inspiration when we picked our house colors:
house pictures found via google
These are the colors we chose:
We also ordered
this doorlite kit to go into our new bright red door.
When it's all finished it will look like this:
We have already painted the red on the Dutch door in the back to get a feel for how it will look, and when we have the top open it gives us a pop of red in the house:
(I kind of love it)
I can't wait to see it all come together!
Our homeowners association makes you ask all of your neighbors if they approve and then the HOA has to approve it. I really hope we have no hang-ups and that we can stick with our original colors!
This weekend was Chris' birthday weekend and it felt like it went on for forever which is always nice!
Thursday we had a playdate with
Lauren and Fern, and
Echo, Poppy and Alomae.
Bennett was totally outnumbered, and he may have even been convinced to put on a tutu.
Friday night, Chris chose to get Broder for his birthday/date night dinner.
No complaints here.
We can never pass up aebilskivers as an appetizer:
Chris got the burger with the amazing pea salad (I don't even like peas but I could eat this all day long).
I got their famous Pyatt y Panna (smoked trout hash) with baked eggs and walnut toast.
I usually order the dark hot chocolate but decided to try the raspberry apple cider and it didn't disappoint!
Sooo good:
Saturday morning, someone woke us up early wanting to play blocks.
We appeased him by playing blocks in bed for a bit then we decided to finish putting together the nursery and rearranging B's room.
The changing table/dresser got moved into the nursery and his bed and bookshelf got flipped around.
He has so much more floor space to play on now!
and the nursery is pretty much done:
(I'll do a full post later)
Saturday afternoon B tried on some of his new summer clothes and he didn't want to take them off.
He especially loved the little euro swim shorts:
(don't they look lovely with the socks?)
During nap, I whipped this up:
(a triple layer chocolate cake: top and bottom were dark chocolate cake and the middle layer was brownie with chocolate frosting in between and on the outside. I stuck pb chips on the outside because well, Chris loves chocolate and pb)
Saturday night we had friends over for cake and coffee.
Nine of us could only finish half of the cake:
(the other half was demolished by Chris' co-workers before 10am yesterday)
Sunday morning Chris woke up to a scavenger hunt:
Then we went to Lovejoy Bakers to get our favorite breakfast:
then to Barista for some delicious caffeinated fuel:
we walked over to REI to get our new stroller, but B really wanted to play in the 'airplanes':
I forgot to take pictures of our amazing food, but I did get a picture of B throughouly enjoying his mac n cheese:
(Chris got his usual double scoop with double fold vanilla and stumptown espresso with cocoa nibs and I got a single scoop of one of the new flavors, honey lemon with ricotta walnut cookies. It was SO good!)
Yesterday it was an amazingly gorgeous day, so after Chris got home we ate a quick dinner and took our new toy out for a test ride to the park.
(yes, we realize how dorky we are)
Only missing one little wiggly thing:
Oh and this weekend we managed to squeeze in a belly picture.
Who knows how many more there will be?!
(pray that this little guy turns head down, a c-section does not sound like fun with a toddler running around)
and here's an outtake, but it accurately shows how I feel:
Pregnancy #2 is way more painful/annoying/difficult than #1 ever was and
Chris gets to hear about it all the time (sorry Chris)!
I feel guilty for complaining because there are people who have really, really difficult pregnancies, but compared to my first one (which was a complete breeze) a majority of this one has been lame.
To put it simply, sciatica sucks!
Come on baby...flip and come out!
So Little Brother will be here in approx. 11 weeks.
Right now his room is non-existient.
Well, it exists but it's more of a play room that's open to the rest of the house than an actual bedroom.
Somewhere between 1954 and July 18th, 2011 someone decided it would be a good idea to turn the 3rd bedroom
(which is in the front of the house)
into a tv room.
(we are assuming it was probably was an old man wanting one of those newfangled "man-caves")
When we bought the house, we knew we would be turning this room back into a bedroom once we had another little wiggly one around these parts.
The time has come to figure out what we want decor-wise and to do a little construction.
(with help of course. I love Chris, but have you met him?)
So this is what the room currently looks like from the dining room:
And standing in the room looking at the dining room:
(that whole opening is going to be walled off, and the new doorway will be moved to the
very left side of the wall so we will be able to close off all of the rooms in the hallway)
Yay!
We get to find homes for Bennett's toys and all of the other stuff we inadvertantly filled the space with! Not.
Goodbye fort.
(it's not you, it's me)
So once all of that is out of the way, we get to do the fun stuff.
That is where I come in.
The walls will be kept bright white to match the rest of the house.
(yes, I know we are boring...but it all flows together like a mid-century ranch should)
I present you:
( I don't know why Polyvore shrunk it all into the center. Hopefully you can still read the labels.)
We actually don't need to buy much since Bennett's room
was/is so similar.
We are re-using his old crib and changing table/dresser.
We are also moving the cube lamp from B's room into the nursery.
(the soft glow is perfect for night time diaper changes and feedings)
The same green chair is being used.
All that is left is the
shelf,
(I LOVE that IKEA came out with a lacqured version of this!)
(one of which is just a piece of fancy wrapping paper...though I'm still trying to convince Chris that the map is awesome and kind of makes the room)
The inside of the closet will be painted the same gray color that we used in Bennett's room, for a little added interest.
I can't wait to see it all come together!
(thank you tax refund)
What do you guys think?
Happy Friday Friends!
When we moved into this house (yes it was a week ago, but whatever) we knew the first thing we were going to do was get rid of the every-room-is-a-different-color.
More importantly, we couldn't wait to slather bright white paint on every wall in the house.
There is just something about an all white house that is fresh and airy even when its 80 degrees (yes that's hot for Oregon) outside.
Painting was the one thing we wanted to completely finish before we moved everything in.
We bought a 5 gallon bucket ($140!) of Behr Ultra Pure White of which the dude said would cover 5 rooms.
We started out painting the bedrooms and we quickly realized our paint was going a lot quicker than we had hoped. We (with the help of Chris' mom) ended up needing to put 3 coats in each room to get it to cover all the way.
Super annoying.
It took all week to paint 3 bedrooms plus a coat in the laundry room. We decided we would tackle the rest of the rooms one-per-weekend. We'll see how that goes.
It could possibly take three 5 gallon buckets to paint this house but we think it's worth it!
Just look at how breezy these rooms seem:

...it's especially hard to get stuff done when this is right out our back door:
Do you think we are crazy for wanting to paint everything white
or are you going to be super jealous when it's all finished?
I just wanted to give you guys a tiny peek into the new house since we moved in.
Nothing is finished but we are pretty much unpacked (after 3 days!)
The only room that is semi finished is Bennett's because we wanted him to have some kind of normalcy in all this craziness. Yes his room looks different, but it's all the same components at least.
our bedroom:
the living room:
oh and I have my own closet for the first time ever!
and I modernized the planter box with some non-cheesy plants:
(with my mom's help)
Those are really the only things worth sharing right now, but
we are really loving our new house and neighborhood!
Sorry for such a brief post but I wanted to share before we head out to pick up Chris from work!
I pretty much think it's cheesy when people write personal notes/letters to their husbands on their blog, but I have to make an exception this time. It's our fifth anniversary (go us!) and we are so busy getting the new house ready to move in that we can't even get away to the store alone to get a card.
So to Chris ...
(and all you guys can peek in too)
Five years have gone by and I love you even more than back then (cliche no?)
I really appreciate everything you do for me (and Bennett) everyday even though I don't always tell you.
Last year for our anniversary last year you completely outdid
(is that even a word?) yourself with a giant surprise extravaganza
(read part one and two) inluding a helicopter ride and surprise family photos.
It's kind of funny, because this year we are spending it painting, packing, taking a trip to Lowe's to buy a BBQ and getting cavities filled at the dentist (and spending half the day with numb mouths). I actually considered it fitting to write a little love note to you for our #5 on a Home Depot receipt but that would be kind of awkward if we had to return something (since we have had to make many return trips already).
Even if this anniversary isn't romantic, it's still exciting. I think it's pretty darn romantic that you bought us a house and that we are putting time and effort into fixing it up together before we move in.
It's perfect and I wouldn't want to be doing anything else today.
I love you Christopher!
...
Soo I don't think I've ever posted any wedding pictures because the cd with all the digitals is at my mom's house. I took pictures of the pictures I have in an album so these aren't the best but at least you get to see! Unfortunately the color has changed a lot in five years, but I'm so glad we have those digitals saved on a cd.
Some of my favorites:
Happy Thursday
(and probably Friday too!)
