Saturday morning we took Chris' parents out to breakfast at
Screen Door for their birthdays.
As always it was soo good.
Bennett got a new wagon.
He loves to sit and read books in it.

During the inagural ride up to Safeway,
Bennett pretended to talk on my phone the whole way.
He's got a rough life.
Sunday morning we met up with my mom and bought appliances for the new house.
We got a great deal on a dishwasher and a washer and dryer!
Aren't they pretty:
We went to a couple 4th of July bbqs and Bennett throughly enjoyed himself.
After hunting for a few weeks, we finally found B a non-cheesy hat and sunglasses.
He's kind of obsessed with them.
My rice crispy treat pops for one of the bbqs:
Once it got dark, we met up with some friends at a baseball field for a big fireworks show.
We watched some fireworks but ended up leaving because I had a stupid migraine.
B wasn't as into the fireworks as I thought he'd be anyways.
They were pretty though:
Chris had Tuesday off and we all slept in and made lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote.
They were the fluffiest/yummiest pancakes ever.
After a weekend of bbqs, Bennett and I are headed out for a run around the waterfront.
It's about time Portland had consistient, summer weather!
On Friday, Chris turned the big 27.
We spent all weekend celebrating!
(calories don't count on birthday weekends)
Opening up his presents:
(a coffee grinder)
and espresso machine:
With the help of
Lauren's hubby Craig, Chris is learning the fine art of
home coffee roasting/espresso making.
The first batch of Chris' beans!:
After presents we went out to breakfast to an awesome little
hipster-run Swedish restauraunt called
Broder. Don't let the hipster fool you...it's amazing.
sidenote: as we were getting out of our car I spotted this gem of a house.
Trans Am in the driveway and toilet on the lawn.
Keepin it classy Portland.
And here are my boys, excited for a tasty birthday breakfast:
Anyways, back to Broder...
the decor is pretty much what I want my house to look like:
and the sweet light fixture:
and the shelves with random, cute things...
It feels like a house and I could stay all day long.
On to the food...
solstice bord. aebleskivers. lefsa with baked eggs. amazing.
For birthday dinner we grabbed
Lucy's with ten of our friends:
Eight of us ended up wearing green army jackets.
Green army jackets are where it's at.
After burgers we went to
Ruby Jewel for some ice cream.
Always amazing.
Saturday morning we went to the Portland Farmer's Market with Chris' family to celebrate.
I didn't get a picture of my
Pine State biscuits and gravy with an egg on top because it was freezing and started pouring on us and I just wanted to eat it.
After breakfast, we walked around and grabbed a chocolate panini roll and a macaron from
Pearl Bakery. Then we rolled home.
Actually, Bennett jumped in his first puddle and loved every minute of it.
Then we rolled home.
Sunday morning, the Hartmanns came over for waffles and Craig helped Chris figure out how to use his new toys. He made us all drinks and put Starbucks to shame on his first try. Watch out Stumptown!
the first taste:
Oh and my new custom earrings arrived from Upper Metal Class.
Love them!
We took so many pictures this weekend, so I'll get right to it...
Friday night Chris and I had date night on Belmont St.
We decided to be a little crazy and get dessert and coffee before dinner.
(I know. sometimes I can't handle us!)
(the coconut cream is amazing)
Inside the counter they have these little dioramas made completely out of paper.
impressive:
I like everything about this place, even the 'open' sign:
coffee at Stumptown:
handsome hubby:
lamb shwarma and chicken shwarma:
Saturday we didn't take any pictures, but somebody else did...hint
here.
Chris studied for his upcoming certification test most of the day, while B and I went to a surprise party for my sweet Grandma's 80th birthday.
She's so cute, I wish I would have taken pictures.
Saturday night we went to church (heard an awesome message by
Sarah's hubby Ian) then came home and passed out.
Sunday was spent doing stuff around the house.
Chris studied some more, and while Bennett napped, I attempted to make bread for the first time.
It wasn't as intimidating as I thought it would be
Macaroni Grill's
not so top secret rosemary bread:
I'd say it turned out very well for my first experience!
I'm pretty sure Heaven will be filled with warm, fresh-baked bread.
Happy Monday!
This weekend was pretty busy but it was so fun!
Saturday we did a little shopping at Trader Joe's and hung out with a bunch of friends.
We played telephone pictionary while Bennett and his friends Lucy and Blake destroyed our friend's house by de-alphabetizing their dvds, rearranging their bookshelves and wreaking havoc on a china set.
After we cleaned up the mess, we all went to dinner at the Spaghetti Factory.
I'm kicking myself for not taking pictures of all of our friends together (including babies) because this is the first time we have all been in the same room in a long time...very different with 3 babies!
Chris and I
carbo loaded for the 8k we would be running the next morning.
Mmm carbs.
Sunday morning pre-race:
Post race family pic:
The cool thing about the Shamrock run is that it runs through downtown Portland, so we were already familiar with our course. I never realized how many hills dowtown had until I ran it!
A view of the runners outside our window:
Bennett loved watching all the people go by from his bedroom window:
The last five weeks of training I have been running 11 minute miles, but I kicked butt at this race and ran 9.45 min miles (early in the morning, in the rain and on hills)! I contribute it to an amazing amount of adrenalin and sprinting a majority of the last mile just so I could be done! So all in all I ran my first 8k in 48mins and 22secs! I finished 324th out of 927 in my division...pretty good for my first race! And I also acheived obliterated my goal of not stopping at all, which lead to the reward Chris so graciously offered me:
Expensive, but the most comfortable piece of clothing I have ever put on. Hands down. I don't plan on working out in these babies, they have been moved into the 'everyday black leggings that go with everything' spot. Seriously, save your pennies and go get some.
They will change your life!
We also did a lot of playing in boxes this weekend:
And we enjoyed spending lots of time with Chris since he's been incredibly busy working crazy hours.
We love him and his hard-working self! :)

Speaking of Chris, he joined the 21st century Sunday and got an iphone.
I plan on joining in June when I'm able to upgrade, hopefully to an iphone 5...booya!
( did I really just say that?)
On Friday I took a picture every hour and am working on a post for it, so be sure to be looking for it in the next few days! It's always interesting to see what people's days are like. Luckily I chose a non-boring day to do it on!
Stay tuned...
Bidets are stupid.
I was looking forward to doing a post about our fun weekend, but our nice weekend ended on a not so nice note.
Apparently , somebody four floors above us decided to install a bidet by hooking it up to their bathroom sink all by themselves.
Bennett woke up at 3am this morning so I gave him some milk and he went right to sleep like normal. I went to the bathroom before getting back into bed and noticed a little bit of water on the ground by the tub. I first thought it was water from Bennett's bath then I heard what sounded like a faucet running on the inside of the wall! I woke Chris up and then called the building's after-hours emergency line. The maintenance guy quickly called me back and said they had already turned the water off and that he was working his way down, checking out the damage in each apartment (only 5 luckily)!
He made it down to our apartment around 5am and I showed him all the places the water leaked into.
I had to clear everything out of the walk-in-closet in Bennett's room, (which is where I keep my clothes and our only place to hide things like filing cabinets and vacuums and everything else when you have a tiny downtown apartment) and put it all right in the middle of his room.
As I write this, I can barely hear myself think because of the three ginormous industrial fans they brought in to dry up the water damage!
baseboards ripped off so these babies can get their job done:

all of our "stuff" in the middle of Bennett's room:

Though I know it could be worse...
We are no stranger to water damage.
Last year (Dec. 2010), two weeks before Christmas (and before the
Ladd) this happened to us as well, only that time it wasn't a stupid bidet.
A water line above Bennett's nursery had frozen, and then upon thawing it burst and water poured out of every opening possible, including (but not limited to) light fixtures, electrical sockets, light switches and baseboards.
The water that didn't find it's way out in Bennett's room, decided to travel across the ceiling, down the walls and find it's own way out in other rooms.
The kicker (literally) is that 3 days before this I had broken my ankle ( it's a little difficult to be a stay at home mom with crutches and a 4 month old!)
We decided to count it all joy and make the best out of a bad situation.
We laughed at our series of unfortunate events and sent out this Christmas card...
bennett's nursery was transfered into our dining room:

Luckily, nothing we own has ever been damaged.
And thank the Lord that we are only renters and don't have to pay to get it all fixed!
(though we would never put in a bidet even if we were homeowners)
:)
